Prior to your first session with us we require you to complete our online questionnaire. The information provided through the questionnaire will give us the opportunity to best tailor our assessment session to the child’s needs. Speech pathology can be a lot of fun for children. Your assistance in completing the questionnaire will ensure that we can focus the initial assessment on interaction with the child rather than with the parent/guardian.
An initial assessment will be tailored around one of the following types of assessments depending on your child’s needs:
Assessment sessions will be up to 60 minutes and dependent on your child’s needs, the information provided in the questionnaire and the willingness of your child to participate on the day. Don’t panic though, our staff have a variety of creative ways to get your child talking!
Following your assessment our therapists will complete a summary report of the results of the initial assessment. This report will outline any issues identified in the assessment and will form the basis of a therapy plan. Reports can also be provided to other allied health providers should your child require multi-disciplinary services or wish to see another speech pathologist in the future.
Every child is different and we will work with you to ensure your child gets the right type of therapy. Sessions take approximately one hour and the regularity will be aligned to your child’s goals. This may change across the course of your child’s treatment depending on their requirements. We will coach and empower you to resourcefully deliver therapy strategies outside of sessions to maximise the potential of your child in reaching their goals. Successfully meeting the child’s objectives is one of the most satisfying experiences a speech pathologist can have. We will do everything we can to work towards this goal with you.
We offer services at our Belconnen clinic and may be able to provide mobile services to school, preschool, childcare and the home. Eligibility for mobile services will depend on your child’s goals and whether these would be better met in a non-clinic environment. Please note – mobile services are limited and may incur additional charges.
We also have a network of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and other allied health providers with which we work to provide multidisciplinary services and group therapy.
